When looking at the National Readership Survey, I can see that the highest readership of the magazine Mojo, is people within the age range of 15-44, and the lowest readership number is that of women.
For the magazine Q, the highest readership is again in the 15-44 age range however less people read the magazine in the age range of 45+. This means that I need to target my magazine at an audience in the age range of 15-44 and perhaps aim it more towards men that towards women.
Both magazines showed that at least 70% of their readers are in the ABC1 category, that of upper and middle class. For example, out of all Mojo's 286,000 readers, 212,000 of them are in the ABC1 category.
I created profile of a typical reader that may fall into the target audience for my magazine, using the data I have found out from the National Readership Survey. The typical reader's demographic factors show him to be male and 17 years old, falling into the majority that read magazines such as Mojo and Q. He is also black, as I want my magazine to represent all nationalities. His socio-economic factors show him to be a student at Brighton College and he works part-time, in Topman. I chose this as I can imagine quite trendy, young males reading magazine such as Mojo and Q. Because the National Readership Survey shows the majority of readers to be in the ABC1 category, this could also mean that they can afford shops like Topman. His psychographic factors show him to: enjoy music, socialise with friends, play in a band and own a keen fashion sense. I chose this as I believe it determines a typical teenager that likes the music scene and may enjoy reading my music magazine.
